Tax concessions for sports fans could be introduced in Taiwan if a proposal by Chinese Nationalist Party Legislator Chang Hsien-yao is approved.
Under the proposal, taxpayers would be able to deduct up to TWD10,000 (USD297) worth of tickets to sporting events from their income tax returns each year.
The plan is aimed at boosting attendance, particularly for baseball. The prevailing view is that the attendance is falling due to a drop in public interest, rather than high taxes, making approval of the proposals uncertain.
