Taiwan Stock Exchange Announces Name Change

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

08 August 2008

It was announced that the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corp. will, from Monday, be known as TWSE, rather than its current designation of TSEC.

The move is being made in order to better differentiate the exchange from other bourses with similar initials, including the Tokyo Stock Exchange, The Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

Speaking to the official Central News Agency, a Tawain Stock Exchange Official explained that:

"Using TSEC will presumably hamper the company's efforts in promoting its globalization."

The Exchange's website address will also be updated to reflect the change, although the old website address will remain functional in parallel for six months after the new one goes live.
