Taiwan's Ministry of Finance (MoF) has announced it is extending the deadline for the income tax payments of those forced to take unpaid leave during the current recession.
Unpaid workers will be able to defer tax payments (which are usually due by May 31) for a further three months, so long as they have taken their leave between September 2008 and December 2009.
The MoF also explained that workers will only be eligible for the extension if the number of days they took amount to over half the number of working days in a single month.
It is hoped that the move will alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by individuals during the ongoing recession.
