Swiss President Merz will travel to Berlin to meet German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück for a working dinner and attend the meeting of finance ministers on June 23, 2009.

The meeting of twenty selected ministers from OECD and EU countries is taking place at the invitation of German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück and French Budget Minister Eric Woerth and is intended to review progress on the implementation of the OECD standards on the exchange of information in tax matters.

President Merz will set out Switzerland's position on international administrative assistance in tax matters during both the bilateral meeting with Finance Minister Steinbrück and in the meeting of finance ministers. In a statement the Swiss Federal Council underlined that Merz will make it clear that Switzerland is following up its words with deeds and is swiftly implementing the Federal Council’s March 13 decision to withdraw its reservations to Article 26 of the OECD Model Tax Convention and in future provide administrative assistance upon request even in cases of tax evasion. He will also demand a level playing field and reiterate the condition made by Switzerland that all states featured on the lists of the OECD and G20 be treated on the same terms.
