Despite a recent warning by Swiss business federation, Economiesuisse that the country risks being left behind on tax unless it takes a more dynamic approach to cross-border competition, experts have suggested that the jurisdiction remains highly competitive as a location for multinational companies.

According to the Swissinfo news service, speaking at the "Location Management Forum" on Wednesday, KPMG Germany chief, Stefan Held suggested that although tax rates are "an important factor" in choosing where to locate a business, they are "not the only one".

Speaking at the same meeting, director of locational promotion at the Swiss Economics Ministry, Eric Scheidegger drew attention to the importance for Switzerland as an international business location of the cantonal system, which allows the individual regions to compete against each other to attract international business.
