It emerged last week that Australian internet service provider, Swiftel and the country's anti-piracy unit, Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI) have settled a dispute over allegations that the ISP hosted Bit Torrent networks, which can be used to illegally dowload copyrighted content.
Although details of the out of court settlement have not been released, MIPI general manager Michael Kerin told the Australian media:
"Let me put it this way - the music industry would never have settled the case unless it was on terms that suited it."
Meanwhile, Swiftel announced that as part of the settlement agreement, it will put in place new procedures to deal with copyright infringement allegations.
"Swiftel regrets that it has not taken enough action to date to stop internet piracy. We are committed to implementing a new set of industry-leading compliance programs to protect the music industry," the firm announced in a statement.
