According to a new survey released by consultancy firm Arthur D. Little, Swiss businesses must consolidate and form strategic alliances if they are to survive and remain internationally competitive in the current economically uncertain times.
Of the 1200 managers surveyed from a wide range of Swiss business sectors, over 69% said that they are intending to strengthen their business alliances in the near future, and around 90% said that there were plans for strategic alliances in the next five years.
According to Arthur D. Little, alliances between businesses are especially important in sectors such as information technology, telecommunications, and the media, although the financial services sector, which has always been quite fertile ground for such activity, was not mentioned.
The poll also revealed that strategic business alliances are replacing the traditional merger scenario in Switzerland as the corporate sector's preferred modus operandi. This, according to the consultancy firm, is because Swiss businesses feel that partnerships allow a great deal more flexibility.
