More than 67% of affluent investors questioned in a new survey conducted by Hedge Fund Center (HFC) indicated that the Internet is fostering greater transparency in the hedge fund industry. 61% indicated they are more likely to invest in a hedge fund after accessing hedge fund data on the Internet. Furthermore, the study also determined that 81% of the surveyed investors still believe professional and personal relationships play a greater role in hedge fund investing than the Internet.
HFC surveyed its membership comprised of accredited investors and financial professionals in January 2002. The survey focused on the respondents’ awareness of hedge fund information on the Internet and the degree to which that data influences their investment decisions.
“Our survey confirms that investors view the Internet as a positive factor in promoting transparency from hedge funds, yet they are still reticent about making investment decisions based solely upon that information,” said Brian McQuade, principal of Hedge Fund Center. “Personal and professional relationships continue to play a crucial role with investors’ decision making processes.”
In tandem with the announcement of its survey results, Hedge Fund Center (www.hedgefundcenter.com) introduces Hedge Fund Events (www.hedgefundevents.com), the first online resource connecting attendees with the providers of hedge fund conferences and seminars.
With the confusion created by the high number of hedge fund and related financial industry conferences that have emerged in recent years, Hedge Fund Events addresses the need for a single destination where interested parties can access information and register to attend conferences – quickly and easily – on a single Internet site.
Hedge Fund Center and Hedge Fund Events are owned and operated by Fund-Investors, LLC. Online since 1996, the mission of Hedge Fund Center is to provide superior, objective educational information on all matters related to hedge funds. It seeks to help hedge fund investors gain a more thorough understanding of relevant theoretical and practical investment and business issues; it likewise seeks to provide hedge fund managers with an unbiased forum for disseminating accurate, meaningful information about their funds.
