According to a report from major Spanish news agency, Europa Press last week, UK Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw is considering asking his Spanish counterpart, Ana Palacio to shelve the Gibraltar sovereignty negotiations until tensions over the escalating situation with Iraq have eased.
Europa Press also highlighted increasing opposition - both within the UK Parliament and internationally - to the talks, and accusations that the British authorities are behaving in an unconstitutional manner by pre-emptively dismissing the results of the November 7 referendum in Gibraltar, as additional factors which may lead to the postponement of the talks.
The Spanish agency did not outline a time scale for the potential delay, however, leaving observers to speculate that the Anglo-Spanish talks could be suspended indefinitely, if this report is confirmed.
