Stanley Leisure plc has announced that it will open a membership list for its up-market virtual casino Crockfords-casinos.com in two weeks' time.
The casino will be based in Dominica, along with two other on-line casinos which the company bought in March for £8.1m, Acropoliscasinos.com and Avaloncasinos.com.
Stanley says that the casinos have 20,000 regular gamblers who drop a total of $100m annually, but that it expects the Crockfords site to attract a heavier type of player.
Stanley also announced the purchase of a further 23 betting shops in the UK, making 660 in total, but at the same time said it would open a sports betting site in Malta in August to offer tax-free betting to UK punters. The company said it had no choice but to go offshore as long as the Government doesn't reduce or abolish the UK's 9% betting duty.
Interestingly, the company said it was seeing no evidence at all of any move from its betting shops towards Internet betting, and it puts this down to the lower socio-economic group that patronises betting shops who don't typically have Internet access.
