Louie Laveist, Saint Maarten's Commissioner of Labour Affairs, has indicated that a review of policy regarding the issuance of employment permits is shortly to be submitted to the Executive Council.
Mr Laveist told the Island Council on Tuesday that the policy review is at an "advanced stage" and that a proposal is likely to be submitted to the Executive Council within the next three weeks.
As part of the review process, consideration is being given to the length of employment permits, the provision of housing for permit applicants and the families of those taking up employment on the island, Mr Laveist explained.
The Commissioner's responses came in answer to questions on employment issues raised following the approval of a planning permit for the future Dawn Beach resort.
