Telecommunications firm Sprint Nextel Corp. announced last Thursday that it has settled its patent dispute with tglo.com, Inc (formerly known as VoiceGlo Holdings Inc) and Theglobe.com.
In October 2005, Sprint filed a lawsuit against VoiceGlo Holdings and Theglobe.com alleging that the providers of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone services and equipment infringed seven patents owned by Sprint.
As part of the settlement, tglo.com and Theglobe.com have entered into a non-exclusive license under Sprint's patents. The remaining terms of the settlement are confidential.
"Sprint is very pleased with the settlement and views it as a validation of the strength of our voice-over-packet portfolio and a recognition of the importance of the innovations developed by our employees," announced Harley Ball, Sprint's vice president of intellectual property, continuing:
"Sprint's voice-over-packet portfolio comprises more than 100 patents covering different methods, components and systems employing VoIP and other technologies. Sprint considers the settlement a significant achievement for its patent portfolio."
