According to reports in the Spanish media, Madrid is preparing to make public all details of the Anglo-Spanish agreement at the beginning of October.
Spanish Daily newspaper, Area claimed this week that sources close to the ruling Partido Popular have indicated that the agreement is now almost complete, and that the Spanish government intends to time the launch of the agreement to coincide with a referendum on sovereignty in Gibraltar.
However, given that talks between new Spanish Foreign Minister, Ana Palacio, and her UK counterpart, Jack Straw are not due to formally restart until August 30, and taking into consideration the significant problems faced by Ms Palacio's predecessor, Josep Pique, this announcement demonstrates a remarkable degree of confidence on the part of the Spanish government.
