Gibraltar's media is furious that once again, the Rock appears to have been left out of the loop by the European Commission regarding issues related to its tax regime.
Citing the Spanish EFE news agency as its source, Iberia News revealed this week that Internal Market and Taxation commissioner, Frits Bolkestein is understood to have begun proceedings against the United Kingdom over the lack of information available on Special taxes and VAT in Gibraltar.
'The EU's decision has once again been revealed through the Spanish media with no previous information being revealed in Gibraltar over the possibility that the EU was considering...challenging Gibraltar's VAT concessions via the European courts,' Iberia News observed, continuing:
'The EU Commissioner is reported to have indicated that he considers the non-application of VAT in Gibraltar does not exclude the British Colony from cooperating with other member states on the provision of...information relating to VAT and Special tax concessions.'
