The Spanish government has succumbed to the demands of the country's mobile phone operators such as Telefónica Moviles, Airtel, Retevisión Movil/Amena and Xfera who have joined forces to protest vociferously against a contentious radio spectrum tax hike.
Due to take effect from next year, the tax will be reduced by 62.5% and will result in the government reeling in just euros 360.6 million compared to the euros 962 million that it could have collected if it had allowed the tax rate to stand.
