It emerged this week that the South Korean music industry has launched its first concerted campaign against peer-to-peer file sharing and other forms of piracy.
According to reports, copyright protection organisation Nofree, which represents around 60 of the country's music firms, has filed complaints against 2,700 internet users who share music files illegally.
Nofree additionally called on prosecutors to punish internet portal operator, NHN for its failure to prevent the infringing activity.
Speaking to AFP with regard to the crackdown, Nofree legal advisor, Kim Young-Ki announced that:
"Our suit is not designed to seek financial damages but to ring an alarm bell for illegal music swappers." He continued:
"We hope our action will reduce rampant online piracy and provide an opportunity for individuals and portals to protect copyright."
