Robert Lee, Tax-news.com, London

12 March 2001

The inaugural edition of the Anguilla's Financial Services News, a newsletter produced by the jurisdiction's Financial Services Department, reports that a branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) has been established in Anguilla.

STEP is the international professional body for the trust and estate profession with a worldwide network of about 50 branches. Its 7,000 members include lawyers, accountants, corporate trustees, bankers, insurance brokers and related professionals who are involved with the planning, creation, management and accounting for trusts and estates.

Members of the new Anguillan branch of STEP also include senior figures from the island's government and private sector. Chairman Alex Richardson was quoted in the newsletter as saying that the establishment of the branch is an essential development to ensure that the jurisdiction continues to be a reputable financial centre.
