The Seychelles’ newly appointed Minister for Social Affairs and Employment Vincent Meriton has outlined a new direction for his department, emphasising the need to concentrate on developing a more harmonious public/private partnership, encouraging investment and nurturing the local workforce.

Speaking to reporters this week, Mr Meriton called for greater cooperation between government departments in information sharing and networking in order to "promote investment and the role of small businesses."

However, although the minister recognised the important role played by expatriates in the local economy, he revealed that his department will continue to carry out a policy of localisation, allowing returning graduates, professionals and workers to contribute to economic growth."
