Seychelles Vice-President and Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, James Alix Michel, on Tuesday launched the country's official website.
'Virtual Seychelles' has been designed to offer international visitors and investors alike access to information and news on tourism, business, offshore finance, and culture within the region, and was praised by the Vice-President as the most comprehensive resource available on the Seychelles.
Speaking at the launch of the portal, Mr Michel called on all national organisations, including businesses and non-governmental organisations which have not yet affiliated themselves with the service to do so, arguing that full participation will entice visitors and investors to: 'come to our beautiful islands to enable our business community and people to earn a better living'.
The Chairman of the project, Joel Morgan, demonstrated the features of the site to those present at its inauguration, explaining that it had taken over two years to develop because, in view of the significance of the initiative, it was important not to rush the project and risk compromising the site's quality.
'Doing this project has not been easy by any standards,' he explained. 'Nothing of this size or nature has been attempted before in [the] Seychelles.'
