A top tax expert from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) spoke before representatives from Guernsey's finance industry at a conference last week which focused on the organisation's stance on harmful tax practices.
Jeffrey Owens, the OECD's Head of the Centre For Tax Policy and Administration, talked specifically on the organisation's view of the future for offshore jurisdictions and covered subjects such as tax amnesties, creative tax planning and the fight against harmful tax regimes.
Also on the bill was the director of KPMG's tax investigation team based in London Mr Reg Day specialises in investigating suspected cases of serious fraud or attempted avoidance focusing particularly on offshore activities.
A similar conference will be held in Jersey today. .
