It has emerged this week that leading search engines Google and Yahoo! have responded to a federal crackdown on offshore online casinos in the United States by banning casino advertisements.
Following pressure from the US government and the media on companies to stop "aiding and abetting" the offshore organisations, Google and Yahoo! announced this week that they both plan to drop all such ads by the end of the month.
However, the latter firm intends to allow advertisements for internet casinos to continue to run on its non-US websites.
Speaking to the Associated Press, a spokeswoman for Overture Services, a Yahoo! subsidiary, explained that the ban on casino adverts was down to a "lack of clarity in the current environment".
