The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) has announced the launch of a new qualification specifically designed for accountants and tax practitioners.

The STEP Diploma for England and Wales (Trusts and Estates): Accountants and Tax Practitioners focuses on the legal principles and practices underlying the administration of trusts and estates and on providing a broad legal understanding of the trust vehicle.

STEP Worldwide Chief Executive, David Harvey, welcomed the new diploma, stating: “This qualification is another example of STEP broadening their educational reach in offering professional development targeting tax practitioners and accountants rather than legal professionals. This diploma came as a direct result of STEP responding to its members’ suggestions.”

The program is offered in conjunction with CLT International, and aimed at practitioners who are keen to benchmark their existing knowledge against a professional qualification, but also wish to gain further understanding of specific aspects of the industry by undertaking a high-level, intensive and focused course of study. This route provides an accelerated route to membership of STEP.

Prospective applicants will need to demonstrate a minimum of seven years’ post-qualification experience in the private client field with some direct exposure to trusts and/or estates work. They will also need to hold an existing, relevant, professional qualification in accountancy or tax.
