Russia's Tax Ministry Aims To Prosecute Indebted Business Taxpayers

Russian Tax Minister, Gennadiy Bukayev, has announced that the Tax Ministry will launch legal action against company bosses who have not addressed their tax debts.

According to news agency Pravda, the Ministry is seeking to improve the leadership of state-owned and private businesses to prompt them into sorting out their tax arrears. 'We have the right, and we are going to exercise it, to open criminal cases against the chiefs of such companies,' claimed the minister.

The Tax Ministry is aiming to restructure tax liabilities worth RR166 billion (US$5.59 billion). The number of companies that have applied for debt restructuring is 21,399 and the total amount of monies involved is about RUR219 billion ( $7.37 billion).
