The Russian government has no plans to introduce any form of tax amnesty in the near future, the Economic Development and Trade Minster, German Gref, announced last Friday.
Gref informed reporters that the Kremlin has neither ruled in or out the possibility of a future tax amnesty, and revealed that the government is currently studying the experience of other nations, such as Belgium, where tax amnesties have been utilised by governments and tax authorities.
However, the minister expressed his own personal scepticism as to the effectiveness of such measures:
“I have never said I support or, on the other hand, reject the tax amnesty idea, but international experience does not show any significant positive results from the measure,” Gref remarked.
