Russian authorities have reopened the tax evasion case against a Hermitage Capital lawyer who died in murky circumstances in 2009.
Sergei L. Magnitsky died aged 37 while held in a Russian detention centre over the alleged evasion charges. He was accused of tax evasion and arrested on such charges shortly after having acted as whistle blower over alleged corruption by Russian officials. It was claimed that authorities had embezzled USD230m through an apparently fraudulent tax refund application.
It is not yet known when procedures will begin or how long it will take for the case to be concluded.
