A flurry of diplomatic activity has given rise to speculation in the Cypriot media that the United Nations may be about to produce a third draft of its peace treaty, addressing more of the concerns expressed by Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
According to a report from the Cyprus Weekly news service, speaking with regard to the several planned visits by UN and other diplomats to Athens, and Turkish Foreign Minister, Yasar Yakis' trip to Northern Cyprus, Greek Prime Minister, Costas Simitis cautioned that: 'we must get ready for developments', and suggested that the UN may present a third draft treaty to both sides, either before or after the Cypriot presidential elections.
According to Mr Simitis, who was reportedly addressing his cabinet in Athens, in this third - and almost certainly last - text there would likely be 'marginal improvements'.
