According to reports in the Irish media this week, a High Court ruling delivered on Wednesday means that the Revenue Commission can expand its investigation into Ansbacher (Cayman).
The tax authority's investigation into bogus non-resident accounts held by Irish residents with the bank has so far netted over EUR42 million, but the High Court's decision to allow access to previously confidential customer accounts could bring in millions more in undeclared assets.
Reporting yesterday on the decision, the Business World news service revealed that the Revenue Commissioners will now be permitted to access all information concerning individuals and firms named in the inspector's report as having been clients of the Cayman-based bank.
Papers associated with those named in the report as having failed to cooperate with the inquiry should also be handed over to the tax authority, the High Court ruled.
