According to a recent survey conducted for Forfas, Ireland's National Policy and Advisory Board for Enterprise, Trade, Science, Technology and Innovation, in many instances consumers in the ROI were right to complain that they were being 'ripped off' in the period immediately following the country's entry to the eurozone.
According to an analysis of the survey in the Irish Independent on Thursday, the report found evidence of 'euro profiteering' by doctors, dentists, publicans, hairdressers, and restaurants in the aftermath of the euro introduction. The survey's authors suggested that this behaviour was more prevalent in sectors which lack competition.
However, this is not the only piece of bad news for Irish consumers, according to the Irish Independent. The Forfas report also revealed that the cost of living in Ireland is among the highest of all the eurozone countries, topped only by Finland.
