As the Australian tax deadline approaches at the end of the month, ATO Commissioner Michael Carmody announced recently that record numbers are using the online system 'e-tax' to lodge their returns electronically.
According to Carmody, 600,000 people have lodged their tax returns electronically, almost as many as filed using the traditional paper method.
"This year we expect more than 850,000 people to use e-tax and more than 100,000 to lodge over the telephone," said Mr Carmody. "People like being able to use e-tax 24 hours a day, seven days a week," he added.
According to the ATO, most people lodging by e-tax receive their tax refund or notice of debt within 14 days, although no debt is due before 21 November.
