Speaking earlier this week, CEO of RealNetworks, Rob Glaser suggested that the recent European Commission antitrust ruling against Microsoft may help his company in its parallel lawsuit against the software giant.
In London to promote new European versions of RealPlayer 10, the company's media player software, Mr Glaser told technology news service, Silicon.com that:
"The Commission did the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons."
When questioned on the implications of the ruling for RealNetworks' own case, launched in December 2003, which also alleges that Microsoft abused its monopoly position in order to dominate the media player market, Mr Glaser observed that:
"It's a positive development, the first time any jurisdiction has ruled on media players." He went on to add that:
"It is much better to establish a legal precedent that there was a violation."
