Research undertaken by the insurance firm Prudential, has surveyed retirement destinations for the United Kingdom’s pensioners.
According to the study’s calculations, a weekly basket of goods in the ten most popular retirement spots for UK expats cost £12.73 in Spain, the most popular place for Britons retiring abroad, and the third cheapest on the list.
However, the same basket of goods bought in South Africa would cost just £9.18, placing it at the top of the list of the least costly destinations, while New Zealand was placed second in the league.
The study revealed that in the United Kingdom, the bill for the same goods would come to £14.95, which the study suggests is less than Canada, France, Australia and Jamaica, although more than Italy and the United States.
