Proposed Swiss Copyright Reforms Criticised

by Ulrika Lomas, for LawAndTax-News.com, Brussels

14 February 2005

Following a consultation on the matter launched by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property in October 2004, it has emerged that proposed revisions to Switzerlands's copyright laws are deeply unpopular amongst some sections of the community.

Among the opponents of the legislation in its current form, according to reports in the national media, were civil rights organisations, political parties and special interest groups.

In particular, concerns were expressed over a provision which bans the circumvention of technological copyright protections, which critics argued overly benefited copyright holders.
