Phoenix Investment Partners, Ltd. is moving forward with its strategy to expand its alternative investment offerings in 2001 with hedge funds and private-equity partnerships. The firm has hired Donnell Segalas to oversee sales and marketing for its new Alternative Financial Products division, where he will be responsible for the distribution of alternative investments to both institutional and retail clients.
"To date, we have focused successfully on structured products and have launched a number of highly innovative CBOs and CDOs. This year, we are looking to expand our alternative product offerings with hedge funds and private-equity partnerships," said Michael Haylon, executive vice president, Phoenix Investment Partners, and head of the Alternative Financial Products division. "Don Segalas' expertise in private-equity placements will help us develop and market investments that will appeal to the diversification needs of institutional and high-net-worth investors."
Currently, Phoenix Investment Partners has $2.1 billion in alternative investment assets under management, which include structured products such as CBOs and CDOs that are managed by several of the firm's fixed-income money management affiliates.
Before joining Phoenix, Mr. Segalas was managing director at Far Hills Group, where he focused on private equity placements. Prior to joining Far Hills, he was a founding partner of a leveraged buyout firm, MapleWood Partners, L.P., and oversaw U.S. marketing activities, including fundraising, investor relations and deal flow marketing. He was a structured finance professional for 12 years, working for several leading investment banking firms. He is a graduate of Denison University.
