Gibraltar's Chief Minister, Peter Caruana has met with the UK's new Minister for Europe, Denis MacShane, it emerged this week.
Despite speculation as to the agenda of Tuesday's meeting, which is the first since Mr MacShane replaced Peter Hain in the post in October, the Foreign Office was reportedly tight-lipped following the hour long get-together.
Speaking to the Panorama news service, an FCO spokeswoman explained that it was primarily a 'get to know you meeting', continuing: 'It was the first opportunity for the two to meet. There was a good atmosphere and they discussed a variety of issues'.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister revealed that Mr MacShane had expressed an interest in visiting the Rock in 2003, although he explained that commitments to visit all of the countries which were recently accepted for the 2004 EU enlargement are likely to keep the Minister for Europe busy for the next few months at least.
