The government of Panama has announced that the process of selecting a new operator to provide local, long distance and international telecommunications services is to be extended into next month.
According to a release from the Economy and Finance Ministry, the new deadline to find a telecom provider has been pushed back to October 14 - one month later than the government initially envisaged.
It has been reported that the postponement of the deadline came amid complaints from some firms that the bidding rules did not offer an even playing field for newcomers to the process.
So far, eleven companies have purchased the bidding rules. The winning company will have six months to launch its services.
