Pakistan's Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has requested that the forthcoming budget include tax concessions for the industry.
Speaking at a telecom seminar, the PTA's Chairman, Mohammad Yaseen, announced that a request had been sent to the country's Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for the current 21% tax levy on the industry to be reduced to 16%.
Yaseen explained that the heavy tax burdens had stunted growth in the sector.
The PTA Chairman also encouraged telecoms companies to collaborate synergistically in order to cut costs.
