It emerged this week that France's monopoly betting operator, Pari Mutuel Urbain is threatening legal action against four online bookmakers for offering their services to French residents.
PMU was awarded monopoly status in 1930, when the French government decided that the system would be more efficient and easier to regulate in the hands of a single operator.
Speaking to the international media regarding the possible actions against Bet and Win, Mr Bookmaker, Sporting Bet and Stanley International Betting, a PMU spokesman confirmed that:
"What they are doing is illegal. We are launching legal proceedings against them."
