Oman's Ministry of National Economy and the Middle Eastern branch of international organisation, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) are to co-host an awards ceremony on March 29 to thank the government of Oman for its dedication to upholding the intellectual property rights of local software companies.

The function is a first for the Gulf region, and will be attended by Microsoft's Middle East and Africa vice president, Bernard Vergnes, as well as prominent local dignitaries and businessmen.

Speaking at the weekend, Jawad Al-Redha, co-chairman of the BSA's Middle Eastern operation explained the rationale behind the forthcoming awards ceremony:

'Oman offers one of the most favourable business climates for IT investment and growth in the region. We consider it a privilege to recognize the Omani government's efforts aimed at protecting the rights of software companies in this market,' he announced, continuing:

'The Sultanate of Oman has been progressive in adopting and implementing new technologies and software infrastructure.'
