by Jason Gorringe, for LawAndTax-News.com, London

30 January 2007

It was announced on Friday that Nick Kershaw has been appointed Managing Partner of the Jersey legal practice of Ogier.

According to Ogier, Mr Kershaw is one of the leading investment funds lawyers in Jersey and, as Chairman of the Legal Sub-Committee of the Jersey Funds Association, was instrumental in the introduction of the Jersey Expert Fund.

He has been a partner at Ogier for ten years, having joined from Clifford Chance in London. Over the last five years he has been a member of the Group Executive Board and the Group Strategy Board.

Mr Kershaw succeeds Sarah Fitz who has been managing partner since 2000.

Ogier Group Chairman Jonathan White announced, regarding the new appointment, that:

“The partnership is extremely grateful to Sarah for her leadership. Over Sarah’s maximum term of office Ogier has experienced considerable expansion, both in Jersey and around the offshore world.”

He added:

“Nick is the unanimous choice of the partnership to take up this important management role. He is the ideal person to ensure that the direction agreed upon by the partners is delivered to ensure a strong future for Ogier’s staff and its clients.”

Commenting on his new role, Mr Kershaw observed that:

“Last year was another great year for Ogier, having been awarded the highest overall rating of any law firm in Jersey by the Legal 500 for the third successive year and being named Global Offshore Law Firm of the Year by Chambers. I am looking forward to continuing to drive the success of the firm.”

At the beginning of February, Ogier will merge with BVI firm WSmiths to create a new global organisation with a presence in 9 financial centres employing over 600 staff offering advice on BVI, Channel Islands and Cayman Islands law.

As a result of the merger, the group, branded Ogier, will have a presence in the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jersey, London, Montevideo and New Zealand.
