A free trade agreement between Canada and India should be implemented within the next ten years, a Canadian government official has suggested.
The call for the agreement was made by Canada's Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Deepak Obhrai, during a recent meeting of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) Round Table.
Obhrai argued that the introduction of an FTA would bolster the current economic relationship between the countries, which generates around USD4bn worth of trade each year.
The Secretary concluded that he would like to see around six key areas of trade between India and Canada included in a Free Trade Agreement, with aviation, technology, agriculture and energy being priority sectors under the agreement.
