The UK's Office of Government Commerce (OGC) on Friday unveiled its new list of the 32 law firms approved for use by all government departments.
The firms will feature on seven specialist panels, which are set to be renewed every three years. The areas of law upon which the different panels will be focussing are: IT and telecommunications, property and estates, human resources, construction, company and corporate, financial and banking, and general commercial.
According to reports, the OGC expects to save around £7 million in legal fees over the next few years as a result of this streamlining of the government's legal advisors.
However, the Office of Government Commerce announced that departments are free to make use of advisors not on the list, should they so desire.
