The UK's Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is currently consulting on the introduction of new regulations for online retailers, it has emerged.
The OFT is focusing on issues such as guarantees, returns policies, terms and conditions, and the provision of contact details, and wants to bring the country's e-commerce rules in line with current distance selling standards.
Suggestions put forward by the Office for improvements in the aforementioned areas include the provision of full contact details on websites, standardising terms and conditions and ensuring that customers have agreed to rather than just read them, and outlining returns policies in greater detail.
Comment is invited until January 2005.
