Apple Computer may be facing a long battle with the Norwegian authorities over its iTunes online music store, it emerged last week.
Earlier this year, the Norwegian consumer ombudsman ruled that by only allowing consumers to use their iPod digital music players in conjunction with the iTunes service, Apple was in violation of the country's Marketing Control Act.
Although the firm has responded to the allegations, the Norwegian Consumer Council has argued that the concessions made by Apple towards addressing its objections do not go far enough.
Speaking to the Financial Times, senior adviser to the Consumer Council, Torgeir Waterhouse explained that:
"Our position is that this is a tool to lock consumers into their products. This is just the start of a long struggle. We are at the beginning of a booming digital market and if we don't win this one then we won't be able to achieve a fair marketplace."
