Software giant Microsoft signed an agreement with the Nigerian government on Friday, pledging to increase cooperation in combating internet fraud.
The agreement, according to Microsft, aims "to combat issues such as spam, financial scams...spyware, viruses, worms, malicious code launches and counterfeiting".
According to an Associated Press report, the agreement was signed on behalf of the Nigerian authorities by Nuhu Ribadu, the head of the government's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Meanwhile, President Olusegun Obasanjo sent new anti-spam legislation to Parliament last Tuesday, which would impose stiff custodial sentences on spammers, identity thieves, child pornographers and terrorists.
