Changes to the laws governing distance selling in the United Kingdom came into effect last Wednesday, it has emerged.
The amendments to the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations are based on similar changes to European legislation, and apply to sales made to consumers via the internet, mail order, telephone, fax, or digital television.
Under the amended regulations, consumers in the UK have been afforded a seven day grace period during which they can cancel a contract agreed via one of the aforementioned methods.
The new rules also specify certain information which must be given to consumers before they purchase goods or services from distance sellers.
