The site, News.portfoliocorner.com, aims to 'educate [investors] about a diverse range of financial issues'. The site comprises a number of departments which offer articles written by financial advisors. Investment Strategy involves the basic decisions and policies used to pursue one's investment goals, including approaches to investing and response to market changes. Business/Entrepreneur offers articles of concern for self-employed individuals and those who own businesses. There are also sections on Estate Planning, Retirement Planning and Charitable Giving. Then there is Life Planning, which PortfolioCorner says 'identifies one's most deeply held values and uses them as the core around which a financial plan is developed.'
PortfolioCorner added that the site features articles 'written by renowned experts in wealth management, freelance writers, and participating subscribers. Expert Forums will leverage the expertise of our subscribers to answer questions sent in by readers. When the visitor is ready to look for an advisor, the advisor guide explains the process of selecting an advisor and encourages him/her to take advantage of an Advisor Referral Service to look for a suitable advisor.'
The referral service matches the investor with a financial advisor whose experience, expertise and professional interest best correlate to his/her preferences. There are four parts to the referral service registration process: create an account; create an investor profile (users must be prepared to provide information on income, net worth, current investments and future investment plans); establish advisor selection criteria by rating the importance of various financial and planning services, investment strategies, financial products, client type specialization and location; and additional questions that help the site better understand the interests of its registered users and help define future services.
