It emerged last week that the formal creation of the post of Legal Services Complaints Commissioner is to take place "very shortly".
The post, which was unveiled by Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer at the UK Law Society's annual conference last September, will be assumed by the Legal Services Ombudsman, Ms Zahida Manzoor. Ms Manzoor will assume the new position in addition to her existing job.
Speaking to the Law Gazette, an unnamed spokeswoman for the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) explained that the delay in creating the post formally had been due to procedural requirements for getting the appointment cleared by Parliament.
"There is no hold up, it's just a bit slow," she announced.
