Mark Everson has been nominated to serve as Commissioner of the US Internal Revenue Service, the White House revealed on Monday.
Mr Everson's nomination follows former Commissioner, Charles Rossotti's decision to step down last November rather than seek a second five-year term in the position, and still requires Senate approval before his appointment can be made official.
According to a government statement: 'Most recently, Everson served as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget...Prior to that he was Controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management.'
Speaking on Monday, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer stressed Mr Everson's suitability for the position, observing that the senior government official 'has worked on government-wide financial management and technology issues and is well-qualified to take over management of the Internal Revenue Service.'
