It was announced on Friday that the United Democratic Party had won Belize's general election, with Dean Barrow, the former leader of the opposition being sworn in as Prime Minister on Friday.
The victory was reported as a "landslide" win, with Mr. Barrow's party winning 20 of the 31 seats in the House of Representatives, and will give Belize a new government for the first time in ten years.
Speaking out on several of the country's radio and television stations, Mr Barrow announced that:
"I am humbled and grateful to the Belizean people for this opportunity to head a new government that will restore our economy and re-establish transparency, accountability and good governance."
Barrow is expected to announce his cabinet choices on Monday or Tuesday, having spent the weekend considering his options.
Regarding the make-up of his cabinet, Barrow has said that he will be taking geographic and ethnic factors into consideration.
