It was announced this week that Marcus Killick, director of KPMG's International Regulatory Services Division, has been appointed as Gibraltar's Financial Services Commissioner, and will assume his new position from next month.
Prior to joining KPMG in 1998, Mr Killick worked in a senior regulatory capacity in both the Cayman Islands and the Isle of Man, and is a qualified UK barrister and New York attorney.
In his role as head of banking supervision at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, Mr Killick devised and co-founded the Offshore Group of Collective Investment Scheme Supervisors (OGCISS). He was also involved in the Review of Financial Regulation in the Caribbean Overseas Territories and Bermuda on behalf of the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Territories themselves.
Speaking following the announcement of Mr Killick's appointment, Gibraltar's Minister for Trade, Industry & Telecommunication, the Hon. Keith Azopardi expressed confidence that the new Financial Services Commissioner: 'will provide the leadership necessary to ensure that Gibraltar's financial services sector continues to be properly regulated in accordance with the financial services policy set by the government.'
Mr Azopardi also acknowledged the 'very significant contribution' made by the outgoing Commissioner, Martin Fuggle, who, he revealed: 'has successfully steered the Commission's role and work during a particularly challenging period of change in the international regulatory environment'.
